General Discussion / Re: Theft
Last post by 3dB - December 23, 2020, 02:37:19 AM
Heya,

Sorry this happened to you. I looked in the inventories of the two players you mentioned and found one of them has all of your stuff. The other player is in your place but I don't think he took anything, he seems to be playing legitimately.

The player with the stuff in his inventory will receive a warning. I'll make sure he gets it. If it happens again he'll be gone. I'm only doing this because he seems to be playing with the guy who's doing it straight.

As for making things right, there are two options: I can (A) roll back your area to right before the theft/modifications which will make all your stuff reappear where it was and undo any building they did, or (B) leave the area as-is and give you a shulker box with your missing items. Let me know which you'd prefer and I'll make it so.

Edit for clarification: When I say roll back, I mean rewinding the chunks you're in to Sunday morning (12/20). The person who took your things was on at that point but I don't think they had taken anything yet. If they had then it'd have to go back to Saturday morning (12/19).

Alright, who the hell went into my place and stole my stuff on display?  Full Set of Enchanted Netherite Armor and a Full set of weapons and tools.  Void_9 and RedDragonTitan are in my area, I have my place screwed up and stolen from and another place modified.  I'm mad, seriously mad.  I was making my place for all to enjoy.  no more.

Announcements & Events / Server graphs
Last post by 3dB - December 06, 2020, 12:35:28 PM
As part of changing hardware to a Raspberry Pi I decided that now was a good time to start looking at metrics for the server to make sure it could keep up with what people were doing. As part of that the server now has a graph of metrics you can check out. The most important graph is probably the on for Minecraft Tick Lag. It will log whenever the Minecraft server starts complaining that it is falling behind on processing.

Enjoy!

Announcements & Events / Server change & slowdown
Last post by 3dB - November 14, 2020, 01:47:51 AM
Hello fellow Minecrafters,

Today I'm starting an experiment to try and save myself some money running this server. The hardware we've used for a long time is not exactly the most efficient anymore and it's no doubt cost me a chunk of change over the years. Since we've pretty much dwindled down to just a few players I'm testing retiring the old server and replacing it with a Raspberry Pi.

You will notice that some things will be a little slower on this new hardware. Most notably you will encounter a few seconds of lag when logging in and when switching dimensions such as going from the overworld to the nether. This is expected, the server should catch up after a moment.

I've made some significant tweaks to the environment to make things run as smoothly as possible and I'll probably be looking at doing some more over the next week or so. I've compiled a custom version of the JRE to make Java a little snappier which was a fun endeavour to say the least.

If you run into any significant problems please let me know.

Thanks!

The mapping software took a long time to put out an update for 1.16 but it's finally done. Enjoy!

Announcements & Events / Server tweaks for performance
Last post by 3dB - July 03, 2020, 01:49:40 AM
Hi All,

I've made some configuration changes to the server to help it run a bit better and be less laggy. You shouldn't see any impact on gameplay, but this doesn't rule out the possibility that you might. Here are the two most major changes:

  • Redstone engine has been replaced with a more efficient version. It should still act exactly like normal 1.16 redstone. If it doesn't please let me know.
  • Distance of chunks that are loaded into memory for processing has been reduced from 11 to 9. This means if you have a redstone machine that is 9 chunks away it will continue to work. If it's 10 chunks away it'll stop until you move closer again.

Thanks!

Announcements & Events / Re: Nether reset for 1.16

IT IS DONE.

I have disabled map updates until the map software catches up to 1.16, so you're gonna be flying blind in the Nether for a while. Good luck!

If anyone didn't think Mojang had made the Nether creepy enough before, they fixed that for you now.

Announcements & Events / Nether reset for 1.16
Last post by 3dB - June 19, 2020, 09:57:48 PM
Hi All,

Minecraft 1.16 contains huge changes to the Nether, including terrain generation changes. To take full advantage of these changes I will be resetting the Nether for 1.16. Everything there currently will be wiped, so make sure to grab everything you want before it's gone.

Since I no longer use the straight vanilla server I will update to 1.16 and do the Nether wipe once Paper MC updates. They're usually pretty fast.

Let me know if there are any concerns.

Thanks!

I'm sad to report that this upgrade failed. The new CPU did not work in the server. I'm not sure if the CPU itself was bad or simply incompatible with the hardware. In either case I had to put the old CPU back in. No speed upgrade this week  :-[
