Server Upgrade 12/12/2013

Hi All,

After the upgrade to Minecraft 1.7.4 the server has started having performance problems resulting in a significant amount of lag. This lag can often be felt when there are as little as two people logged on. This is not the fault of the server hardware which is not very old and has done well for over a year, but moreso due to the update to the Minecraft server code. While not a total show-stopper, this lag is annoying and we are looking into ways to reduce it.

The first item we are looking into it to move from Java 6 to Java 7 in hopes that we may be able to find a cheap performance boost there. Unfortunately the version of the OS currently running on the server does not have Java 7 support so it must be upgraded. This upgrade will take place tomorrow night (12/12/2012) at 8pm EST. The server will be taken offline during this upgrade and should return shortly after it is complete. The entire process should take no more than one hour to complete.

I apologize to anyone who is inconvenienced by this activity but I think the outcome will benefit us all.
